See What They Say...

Love Helen's classes! She's warm and welcoming and really looks after you. Her classes are gentle enough for a beginner yogi or anyone with injuries, and the routines are really enjoyable and well thought out. So glad I waited this long to begin my yoga journey, as I've found a really great teacher in Helen!

Hi Helen, I just wanted to say thank you so much for our class last night. I've had severe hip pain in my left hip constantly since I was 16 weeks pregnant with my daughter who is now 4. I've tried physio and yoga and it usually helps a little bit, but this morning I woke up and there is no pain! Usually sleeping is agony, and I woke up this morning and feel like I actually don't know how to walk properly as I'm so used to trying to compensate for it hurting. I'm amazed!

I am looking forward to continuing your yoga sessions. I always find that I feel taller and walk more freely coming out of Tuesday yoga! I notice also at work (nursing in a medical ward) I am feeling stronger and more flexible when providing care for my patients and navigating quite cramped conditions with lots of equipment in the way.

So many benefits...

Yoga means “to yoke/harness”. It is a practice we use to unite mind, body, and spirit, to access a state of peace.

In my classes, we will be focusing on asana (yogic postures) practice, which is one part of a much bigger picture.

Body

My classes may feature back-bends, hip work, inversions (where the heart is higher than the head), forward folds, balances and many more.  Exercising these parts of the body promotes strength and flexibility.

As we move through these postures, we are internally massaging our hormone glands (connected to an energy centre known as a chakra) which helps us stay well, regulate our moods and build our immunity.

Mind

Modern life is busy so, by drawing your attention to parts of the body and sensations, I use our window of time together to help you still the mind.  I give lots of cues and focus points so you will leave ready for a relaxed evening, followed by a peaceful sleep.

Spirit

People have asked me if they can be Christian, Muslim or another religion and still practice yoga and the answer is yes.  Yoga is not a religion and teaches that we are all connected through a consciousness that gives us life.  You might refer to this higher power on your own terms.  I will explain any terms I use in a physiological context so you understand how what we are doing benefits your body
